The Last Epoch new uniques added in Season 5 cover skill conversions, minion specialization, leech behavior, variant Rage buffs, and three exceptionally rare chase items. Rage of the Frostborn adds 16 new uniques and two new Set items. Choose targets by the mechanic your build needs, then check the cost or restriction attached to that mechanic.
Start with items that support a workable character, rather than assuming Eternal Font, Gift of the Eidolon, or Death Dance are required to begin the season. Those three are exceptionally rare. The useful first decision is whether a new item fixes your current setup, changes it into a different one, or removes a defensive or resource property you still rely on.
Separate additions from changes to existing items
A new unique introduces an item identity that was not part of the previous pool. A changed unique keeps its identity while receiving different statistics or behavior. A new rare equipment subtype is another category entirely, even when its implicit is strong enough to become a major gear target.
| Category | Season 5 examples | How to evaluate it |
|---|---|---|
| New uniques | Unsated Rage, Effusive Oath, Unbroken Legion | Read the new mechanic and its restriction |
| New Set items | Caretaker's Regrowth and Caretaker's Wrath | Check the set interaction and relevant skill setup |
| New ritual subtypes | Icescale Greaves, Veinweave Belt, Bloodsoaked Dagger | Compare the base implicit and available affixes |
| Adjusted older uniques | Truesight Glass, Undisputed, Merophage | Reassess the changed copy or configuration |
Do not count every buffed item as one of the 16 additions. For example, Truesight Glass gains a skill-level property, while Undisputed gains improved physical melee support and a skill-level range. Those changes can affect an existing build, but they are different from obtaining a new Season 5 item with a completely unfamiliar mechanic.
Caretaker's two-piece Set is also separate from the unique list. A Set item can be useful on its own or in a paired setup, but it should not be described as a new unique merely because it modifies a skill. Keep the item category clear when configuring the loot filter or checking an equipment plan.
Find the additions that match your skill
Several new items focus on a named skill. These are the clearest targets when you already know what you want to play, but they still require checking damage type, resource cost, and companion skills after replacement.
| New item | Main interaction | Decision before equipping |
|---|---|---|
| Heorot's Repose | Avalanche gains spell damage from your added melee damage; melee hits trigger a nearby boulder | Confirm that the setup uses both the melee trigger and Avalanche payoff |
| Perilous Reflection | Marrow Shards returns and can hit enemies again | Ensure you can pay the percentage-of-maximum-health cost |
| Unbroken Legion | Doubles maximum skeletons and supports their resummoning | Remove incompatible non-skeleton specializable minions |
| Fused Elements | Gathering Storm randomly converts among lightning, physical, and cold | Plan around variable damage instead of a single guaranteed element |
| Effusive Oath | Converts Radiant Lance to physical and spreads some incoming boss or rare damage over time | Rebuild damage scaling and maintain recovery |
| Scorched Earth | Converts Summon Tide Elemental to fire and adds minion fire penetration | Match the minion's new damage type |

Heorot's Repose creates a bridge between melee stats and Avalanche. It is a reason to examine a hybrid interaction, not a blanket instruction to replace every caster weapon with added melee damage. Identify which attacks trigger the boulder and whether the rest of the equipment supports the resulting spell damage.
Perilous Reflection adds a second travel opportunity for Marrow Shards, but its extra health payment differs from the skill's basic consumption. If you cannot pay the cost, the return effect does not apply. Evaluate the ability to sustain repeated uses, not just the appealing prospect of another hit.
Fused Elements makes Gathering Storm's conversion random. A filter that only keeps one element's damage equipment may no longer describe the whole setup. Before changing items, decide whether your selected skills and modifiers can make useful contributions across the possible conversions.
Respect minion restrictions and conversion changes
Unbroken Legion doubles the maximum number of skeletons, offers a chance to resummon them after death, and gives skeletons Haste and Frenzy for four seconds after summoning. Its restriction prevents summoning non-skeleton specializable minions. An existing bar that relies on another specialized minion cannot simply retain every slot unchanged.
Build the minion composition first, then evaluate the helmet. More skeletons can be attractive, but replacing a support minion or a separate damage minion changes the overall plan. Do not count the helmet's benefit while retaining abilities its restriction prevents you from using.
Wrangler's Keepsake is a Primalist relic that grants Aspect of the Grole to you and your companions and increases Viper, Lynx, and Shark Aspect effects. It supports an Aspect-focused equipment decision. Confirm which effects your current character can actually use instead of treating the presence of several familiar Aspect names as proof that every companion build benefits equally.
Scorched Earth changes Tide Elemental to fire. Compare minion fire modifiers and penetration with the cold-focused equipment you would replace. A conversion is not a second simultaneous base-damage type, and a tooltip clarification should not be interpreted as permission to stack incompatible conversion branches.
In patch 1.5.2, Tide Elemental's lightning-conversion description clarifies that it does not apply when wind conversion is already allocated. Keep that precedence in mind when exploring alternative trees. The new idol should be part of a coherent elemental plan rather than an excuse to collect every conversion node without reading conditions.
Compare the new defensive mechanics carefully
Morditas' Vengeance prevents your health leech from ending at full health. That lets accrued leech remain ready to restore health as soon as you fall below full, and allows effects that drain a nearby enemy through your leech to continue while you are full. The spear is specific to Pinnacle Morditas, God of Bloodshed.
Effusive Oath increases damage taken from bosses and rare enemies while causing a portion of their damage to be dealt over four seconds. Spreading damage creates a recovery window, but the increased incoming damage remains part of the comparison. Do not treat the item as unconditional damage reduction or ignore the healing needed during that window.

Vestige of Imprisonment causes hit damage to bypass ward while generating ward from uncapped cold resistance. That changes the role of ward in your defenses. A large ward display should not be read as a buffer against hits when the chestpiece explicitly makes those hits bypass it.
Devoured Knowledge gives Acolytes mana scaling and ways to use mana defensively. Check which defensive effects your actual configuration satisfies before replacing an existing relic. A larger mana pool can serve different roles across skills and equipment; the item's presence does not establish that all its benefits apply at once.
Withstand the Elements rolls two variants from a pool of eight, with effects scaling from cold or physical resistance. Read the actual two effects on the copy you found. Two gloves with the same name can support different priorities, and the useful resistance investment depends on their selected variants.
Overcapped resistance means the amount above the normal 75% cap. For example, 275% total cold resistance represents 200% overcapped cold resistance. Uncapped and overcapped wording are different, so preserve the distinction when calculating an item effect.
Match variant items to the actual copy
Unsated Rage permanently grants one of 27 Rage buffs. Its variant can support offense, survival, allies, or a triggered subskill. Check the buff's condition before planning around it: an Evade trigger, a minion effect, and a generic area bonus solve different problems.

For example, Explosive Rage adds 50% increased area for area skills, while Sanguine Rage supplies 200% bleed chance and 100% increased damage over time. These are specific effects that can be assessed against a skill setup. The ring's name alone does not tell you which one you obtained.
Patch 1.5.2 removes the erroneous tier listing on Unsated Rage's Bloodrage buffs. It also stops Revitalizing Rage applying to characters with effects granting ward per missing health. One correction changes the display; the other changes applicability to a defensive setup. Evaluate the selected variant with that distinction in mind.
Frostborn Solitude adapts its effects to the number of Heretical idols equipped, and you can equip only one of the item. A Heretical idol is an idol enchanted through Weaver's Touch. Count the relevant equipped idols rather than assuming every corrupted or unusual idol contributes to that condition.
Keep variant items visible in your loot filter until their conditions are configured correctly. Season 5 adds a Variant affix category. Use it to support your desired selection, but inspect a representative item before relying on a narrow rule to hide unwanted copies.
Treat the three chase uniques as optional destinations
Gift of the Eidolon provides Haste and Frenzy, reduces damage over time taken while you have Haste, and increases area while you have Frenzy. These conditions matter when assessing the complete effect. The area benefit is improved by increased effect of Frenzy, so do not substitute Haste scaling for that part of the tooltip.
Eternal Font uses a potion every second even when you have none, activating potion-use effects. That creates opportunities for equipment that responds to potion use, but the full item and its costs need to be checked before changing the build. An automatic trigger is not a claim that every resource or defensive problem disappears.
Death Dance removes Evade's cooldown and attempts to use a leftmost specialized ability when you Evade, following its available-skill rules. Cooldown abilities must be on the bar, and the selection depends on which relevant ability is not currently on cooldown. The order of specialized skills therefore becomes a practical setup decision.
These three are exceptionally rare, described as rarer than Red Ring. There is no justified numerical farming guarantee from that qualitative comparison. Do not build a first character's entire progression route around finding one quickly or assume that a specific amount of corruption guarantees access.
If you find one, evaluate a transition while preserving usable equipment. A new trigger pattern can require different mana, skill order, recovery, and targeting choices. Keep the character functional while changing those parts instead of replacing the whole build before confirming its new requirements.
Choose a practical acquisition and upgrade plan
Use the listed acquisition route for each target. Morditas' Vengeance belongs to the pinnacle boss; Unsated Rage has ritual and pinnacle routes. Do not assume every new item can be forced by choosing the same broad ritual reward category or that every boss-specific unique belongs in the general world-drop pool.
The pinnacle Morditas route uses Demigod's Ascendance, with a 400-corruption placement requirement after the standard Morditas progression. Pursue that route when the specific item and the character's readiness justify it. It is not a prerequisite for evaluating the other new items.
For available trade equipment, Merchant's Guild no longer gates equippable purchases by faction rank. Compare gold, Favor, rolls, and variants. For self-found goals, CoF rewards and lenses help target categories or properties, but a lens does not establish a missing boss drop source or a guaranteed exact unique.
After obtaining a usable item, decide whether LP or a better variant is the next relevant improvement. Legendary crafting needs an eligible unique, a compatible four-unsealed-affix exalted donor, and the appropriate Temporal Sanctum tier. A new item's mechanic should come first in the evaluation; added affixes refine a useful foundation rather than making an incompatible effect suitable.
Caretaker's Regrowth and Caretaker's Wrath support Entangling Roots through a separate Set route. In 1.5.2, Regrowth's area-based modifier correctly accounts for increased area from the skill tree. That is a reason to recheck an existing Roots configuration, while preserving the distinction between the new Set pair and the season's unique additions.
