Eternal Font is a unique amulet that automatically uses a potion every second, including when your potion supply is empty. This activates effects tied to potion use. Its main opportunity is repeatedly triggering an existing potion-based interaction; its main cost is losing current health on potion use according to how many potions you have used recently.
You can equip it at level 52, but that is not its drop-area requirement. Since hotfix 1.5.1.1, Eternal Font only drops in level 80 or higher zones. It is a chase item, so keep a functioning version of your build that does not depend on finding it.
Identify the amulet and its full tradeoff
Eternal Font uses the Astrology Amulet base. The following ranges are listed in Tunklab's community item data; they are item modifiers rather than a promise about the roll on your next drop.
EHG’s official item reveal includes the expanded potion tooltips: “recently” covers four seconds, and the health loss happens before potion healing.
| Modifier | Listed value | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Base implicit | 6–12% less damage over time taken | This is separate from the potion-use downside |
| Automatic use | One potion use every second, including with no potions | Your potion stock does not need to remain full for the automatic effect |
| Potion preservation | 10–20% chance not to consume a potion on use | This is not immunity to the health-loss modifier |
| Health loss | 2–4% of current health on potion use for every potion used recently | A lower roll reduces this downside |
| Health | 20–30% increased health | Recheck your total health after replacing the old amulet |
| Physical resistance | +40–60% | Avoid creating other resistance gaps during the swap |
| Movement speed | 6–12% increased | Useful alongside the interaction, rather than its central reason to equip the item |
| Skill levels | +1 to skills | Check that specialized trees still perform their intended jobs |
The official item reveal confirms the automatic potion use and activation of on-potion effects. Its power comes from what those repeated uses enable in your character, not simply from wearing an exceptionally rare item.
Understand the repeated health loss
The penalty refers to current health, not maximum health. The expanded tooltip in the official item reveal defines recently as the past four seconds and says this loss happens before the potion grants health. Repeated automatic uses therefore interact with that counter; adding manual uses is not free simply because the amulet already activates itself.
Treat two parts of the modifier separately:
- The item's 2–4% roll sets the loss per counted recent potion.
- Your recent potion-use count changes the cost applied when another potion is used.
The expanded tooltip caps the chance not to consume a potion at 75%; Eternal Font itself rolls only 10–20%. A better preservation roll can help conserve consumable potions, but its text only changes consumption. Do not read it as preventing the automatic use, disabling on-use effects or removing the health cost. Likewise, the amulet's damage-over-time reduction should not be assumed to reduce an effect described as losing current health.
Do not budget around a fixed percentage of maximum health disappearing each second. The modifier is based on your changing current health and the recent-use count, while the character's recovery and other potion interactions also matter. Evaluate the actual setup during sustained combat and during periods when you cannot attack to recover.
Choose an interaction before changing your amulet
Start with an effect your equipment already grants on potion use. Eternal Font repeatedly supplies that trigger. Since it occupies the amulet slot, your belt remains available for potion-based equipment; the item does not itself grant every possible belt effect.
A useful candidate needs more than a matching phrase. Check whether the desired effect has an additional condition, a cooldown, a cap, a cost or a requirement that your character can satisfy. Automatic uses do not justify assuming that every associated buff stacks indefinitely.
Before committing to the swap:
- Read the complete on-use effect you intend to activate and identify what the repeated trigger adds.
- Compare the old amulet's required damage, defenses and skill interactions with what Eternal Font replaces.
- Establish recovery that can handle the health drain while fighting and while repositioning.
- Check the lowest-resource situation, including an empty potion supply, rather than judging only the opening seconds with full health.
- Keep the earlier amulet if the repeated effect does not compensate for the lost function or makes recovery unreliable.
This is especially important when the current build uses an amulet as part of its damage engine. The extra triggers and skill level do not automatically replace an item-specific scaling interaction. Eternal Font is an opportunity to revise a build, rather than an unconditional upgrade for every class.
Farm eligible content without expecting a guaranteed drop
The authoritative drop restriction is the official 1.5.1.1 hotfix: the zone must be level 80 or higher. That differs from both your character level and the amulet's level-52 equip requirement.
EHG introduced Eternal Font alongside Gift of the Eidolon and Death Dance as exceptionally rare items, rarer than Red Ring. The reveal does not provide a guaranteed encounter count or a farm route that forces a drop.
Tunklab lists random drops and item-source routes including Unique Amulet prophecies, amulet outcomes from Rune of Ascendance, Cocooned Amulets and the Age of Winter's Unique or Set Amulet reward. This is community database information, not an official per-enemy probability. Its percentages describe particular item-source outcomes and must not be read as the chance on each monster kill. Special-source eligibility should be checked before spending scarce materials; the official zone gate alone does not establish every conversion interaction.
For a practical chase, continue running eligible content that also advances your character. If you use Circle of Fortune, select amulet-focused rewards that fit the activity you can complete consistently. Keep useful upgrades from the same sessions instead of treating every result other than Eternal Font as wasted progress.
Keep its three different level numbers separate
| Number | Meaning | What it does not mean |
|---|---|---|
| 52 | Listed character level required to equip the amulet | That level-52 campaign areas can drop it |
| 80+ zone level | Official minimum area level for drops since 1.5.1.1 | A guarantee that the amulet appears after a set number of kills |
| 80 effective level for Legendary Potential | Tunklab's listed item-data value for LP calculations | A replacement for the equip requirement or a guaranteed LP roll |
If you find one, evaluate the actual health-loss roll and the potion interaction you will use before committing further crafting resources. Its rarity does not remove its downside, and a build that can function without it gives you a workable fallback while testing the change.
