Last Epoch Season 5 New Skills

Quick Answer

Season 5 adds Dreamslash, Radiant Lance and Summon Tide Elemental. Compare their mastery access, equipment requirements and direct or indirect behavior before choosing a skill route.

On this page

Last Epoch Season 5 added three skills: Radiant Lance for Paladin, Summon Tide Elemental for Shaman, and Dreamslash for Bladedancer. Radiant Lance turns block or mana investment into an offensive spell, Summon Tide Elemental supplies a minion that can become a build centerpiece or support other allies, and Dreamslash combines a fast melee attack with movement and Shadow interactions.

The shortest way to choose is by the combat role you want. Pick Radiant Lance if you want a direct spell whose behavior can change from a shield-fired beam to a targeted blast or an automated Reliquary. Pick Summon Tide Elemental if you want a minion, totem, Tornado, Maelstrom, or ally-support package. Pick Dreamslash if you want an active melee skill that moves through enemies and makes use of Shadows. These are class and mastery additions rather than rewards from the Season 5 Morditas ritual.

The current released version in this guide is 1.5.2.1. That matters because this hotfix corrected visual problems with Summon Tide Elemental and two movement or targeting problems affecting Dreamslash.

Radiant Lance unlocks through 15 points in the Paladin passive tree, rather than character level 15. Void Knights can also use its Void conversion, as the official reveal explains. Compare these skills by access and combat role: their reveal descriptions alone do not establish which has the highest endgame damage.

Radiant Lance: the aggressive Paladin spell

Radiant Lance gives Paladin a dedicated offensive spell. Its normal form requires a shield, calls holy light into that shield, and releases the energy as a lightning beam against enemies in front of the character. The current skill data lists a 24 mana cost, no cooldown, 100 base lightning damage, 500% added damage effectiveness, and 4% increased damage per point of Attunement.

Its defining scaling rule is unusually direct: Radiant Lance deals 1% more damage for every 1% of uncapped block chance. Uncapped is the important word. The offensive calculation can continue benefiting from block chance beyond 100%, even though that does not mean the character can literally block more than every incoming eligible hit. Season 5 also changed other damage effects that scale from block chance to use uncapped block chance.

Radiant Lance branches that change the skill

  • Cloudless Sky removes the shield requirement and replaces block-based damage scaling with mana scaling. This is the branch for a two-handed setup or another configuration that cannot equip a shield. It is a mechanical conversion, so a character built around uncapped block should not take it merely to remove an equipment inconvenience.
  • Cloudburst changes delivery from a forward beam into light dropped directly on enemies. Choose it when targeted placement is more valuable than projecting the normal attack from your character.
  • Exterminatus, which follows Cloudburst, produces both a forward beam and a blast from the sky. The same enemy can be struck by both parts, but the tradeoff is lower cast speed and additional mana cost.
  • Scathing Light makes bosses and rare enemies hit by Radiant Lance take fire and lightning damage over time. The resulting ailment does not stack, so its purpose is sustained damage without requiring rapid applications of many identical stacks.
  • Abyssal Heresy converts the skill toward Void. It changes Electrify chance into Time Rot chance and changes lightning resistance shred into Void resistance shred, creating a route that can fit Void-oriented scaling rather than the default lightning identity.
  • Golden Reliquary replaces direct casting with placement of an invulnerable Reliquary that casts Radiant Lance for you. You begin with a maximum of one, and Attunement can increase that maximum. Because the Reliquaries are invulnerable, this branch does not ask you to invest in minion defenses just to keep the casters alive.

The practical choice starts with equipment. A shield and uncapped block support the native version. A two-handed weapon points toward Cloudless Sky. Cloudburst and Exterminatus change where the damage appears, while Golden Reliquary changes who performs the casts. Scathing Light and Abyssal Heresy change damage planning without requiring the same delivery transformation.

Summon Tide Elemental: Shaman minion and support engine

Summon Tide Elemental is the Shaman's final mastery ability. The elemental is designed to work as a stand-alone minion, a central build component, or a source of utility in a broader minion setup. That makes its tree less about selecting one damage shape and more about deciding what type of unit the elemental should become and which allies it should support.

Tide Elemental branches and their roles

  • Tidal Totem converts the elemental into a totem. It can no longer move, but it becomes affected by totem modifiers. This branch changes the scaling category and positioning behavior at the same time.
  • Seahenge causes your totems to move into positions surrounding the elemental and extends their duration. It is most relevant when the Tide Elemental acts as the center of a multi-totem formation.
  • Water Spout lets a Tornado that reaches the Tide Elemental be redirected toward an enemy. It provides a connection between the minion and a Tornado setup instead of leaving the two skills as unrelated actions.
  • Whirlpools gives the elemental a way to cast Maelstrom when you do. The triggered Maelstrom uses your Maelstrom tree but the elemental's own stats, so both halves of that rule matter when evaluating the interaction.
  • Wellspring grants the Tide Elemental an aura that adds cold spell damage and increased cast speed to allies within 18 meters. The aura follows elemental changes selected through the tree or unique items, allowing it to remain aligned with a converted setup.
  • Pools of Reverence follows Wellspring. It removes the Wellspring benefit from players while making the effect stronger for totems. This is a specialization choice, not a universal upgrade: take it for a totem-centered team, not when your own character needs Wellspring's benefit.
  • Elemental Fury grants ramping cast speed to the Tide Elemental. Unleashed Elements consumes those stacks to release a concentrated torrent of projectiles that can strike the same target multiple times.

Three coherent identities emerge from these branches. A mobile minion setup can retain the elemental's normal movement and use it as an independent combatant. A totem setup can combine Tidal Totem, Seahenge, and the totem-focused side of Wellspring. A spell-synergy setup can instead connect the elemental to Tornado or Maelstrom. Mixing branches is possible, but each selected node should contribute to the same intended role rather than collecting interactions that the rest of the skill bar cannot support.

Hotfix 1.5.2.1 fixed an issue in which the minion's visual effects could conceal other effects, including enemy attack indicators. If those visuals still dominate the battlefield, first confirm that the client has downloaded the current update before treating the behavior as an intended drawback of the skill.

Dreamslash: mobile melee with Shadow interactions

Dreamslash is the Bladedancer's final mastery skill. Its basic action attacks enemies along a path and then performs a quick slash. Your Shadows can also perform Dreamslash, dashing beyond their targets and hitting enemies along their paths. The result is an active, movement-heavy melee tool rather than a stationary attack that merely receives passive Shadow bonuses.

Before choosing equipment for Dreamslash, decide whether you want movement, a ranged melee wave, Shadow Daggers, or fire conversion. The chosen branch determines which damage modifiers, Shadow interactions, and mana demands the rest of the character must support.

Dreamslash branches that change control and Shadow use

  • Nightmare Steel replaces the movement with a damaging wave. The wave still counts as a melee attack, so the node changes delivery without turning Dreamslash into a spell or bow attack.
  • Narcolepsy grants Dream stacks. Consuming a stack makes Dreamslash deal substantially more damage but causes it to select a random enemy. The benefit is therefore paired with reduced targeting control.
  • Dreamwalker increases the rate at which Dream stacks are gained. The reveal post received a tooltip correction: its updated example says that three invested points and 100 Dexterity produce 150% increased Dream gain rate, reducing a two-second interval to 0.8 seconds. The older example attached to the reveal should not be used.
  • Dreamshift lets Shadows substitute for Dream stacks. This changes Shadows from additional performers of Dreamslash into a resource used by the player, so it should be evaluated as a different Shadow loop rather than a simple additive bonus.
  • Collapsing Shadows adds a chance for Dreamslash to inflict Shadow Daggers on hit, with the chance doubled for Dreamslash attacks performed by Shadows. It is the clear bridge between Dreamslash and a Shadow Daggers plan.
  • Recurring Dreams guarantees that Shadows are resummoned on each use, but repeated resummoning consumes mana rapidly. The base concept may be spammable, yet this branch makes mana management a real constraint.
  • Apocalyptic Vision converts Dreamslash's damage to fire and converts relevant ailment support toward Ignite. It is the conversion route for a character that does not want to remain on the default damage identity.

Dreamslash therefore presents three major decisions. First, decide whether the skill should move your character or use Nightmare Steel's wave. Second, decide whether Shadows should copy the attack, feed Dream-related mechanics, or support Shadow Daggers. Third, decide whether repeated Shadow replacement is worth Recurring Dreams' mana pressure. Those choices define how controllable and sustainable the skill feels before detailed equipment decisions enter the picture.

Current 1.5.2.1 fixes for the new skills

Hotfix 1.5.2.1 affects Summon Tide Elemental and Dreamslash but does not list a Radiant Lance fix.

For Summon Tide Elemental, the patch reduces a visibility problem by fixing minion effects that could hide enemy attack indicators and other visual effects. This is a readability correction rather than a documented balance change.

For Dreamslash, a Dreamslash triggered by the Portentous Rage buff no longer moves the player. It now creates an independent Dreamslash that travels its maximum range, comparable to attacks created by Nightmare Steel. The hotfix also changed Nightmare Steel targeting: when the cursor is not directly over an enemy, Dreamslash no longer tries to prioritize enemies near the player.

These corrections matter when comparing guides or footage from launch. Unexpected player movement from a triggered Dreamslash, old Nightmare Steel target selection, and Tide Elemental effects obscuring danger indicators describe pre-fix behavior. On Steam, exit Last Epoch to allow the update to download; restart Steam if the update does not appear.

Choosing the right Season 5 skill

Choose Radiant Lance when you want the clearest direct-damage framework. Its base version rewards shield and uncapped block investment, while Cloudless Sky supports a no-shield alternative. It also has explicit delivery conversions for targeted blasts and Reliquaries, plus ailment and Void branches. The key decision is whether your equipment and defenses support the native block relationship or require the mana-scaling route.

Choose Summon Tide Elemental when you want one skill to connect several Shaman systems. It can remain a minion, become a totem, organize other totems, redirect Tornadoes, echo Maelstrom behavior, provide an aura, or build toward a projectile burst. Select it only after deciding whether the elemental is your primary attacker, a totem anchor, or a support unit, because those roles value different branches.

Choose Dreamslash when you want direct control, movement, and Shadow interaction in the same action. Nightmare Steel is available if the movement itself is undesirable, while the Dream, Shadow Daggers, resummoning, and fire-conversion branches offer distinct directions. Its most important tradeoffs are targeting control under Narcolepsy and mana consumption under Recurring Dreams.

A reveal description is not enough to declare one of these skills universally strongest. The useful comparison is functional: Radiant Lance converts defensive or mana investment into spell offense, Summon Tide Elemental reorganizes minion and totem interactions, and Dreamslash combines mobility with Shadow management. Pick the mechanism that matches the class and combat loop you actually want, then verify that the current client is on 1.5.2.1 before judging any behavior corrected by the first post-launch hotfixes.
